ABC ELBA is an Italian language and culture school on the island of Elba in Porto Azzurro.
The Italian language school ABC ELBA started its summer courses on the island of Elba in 1985 and was founded by two Italian language teachers L2 (qualified in Italian as a foreign language) from Florence. After years of working in their beautiful hometown Florence, they felt the need to transfer their experiences and expertise to a special and wonderful place like the island of Elba.
Here they have created an ideal place to relax and learn, in contact with nature, in the middle of peace and far from the stress of the big cities.

About us
We are a well-trained team of teachers. That is why we are known not only for our modern, innovative techniques, but also for the friendly, lively atmosphere of our classes.
All of our teachers are trained to teach Italian as a foreign language, all are native Italian speakers and university graduates.
Lessons and Method
learn in a natural environment
During the course, the most important communication skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing – are explored equally at all levels and gradually developed.
The teaching materials are carefully selected for our conversation method and are included in the price of the course.
Each week, teachers customize and enrich the course program to meet your interests and needs.
You are trained in the grammatical structures and start immediately to put these into practice. Our first goal is oral communication in dealing with grammar, the rules of which can be mastered only through continual practice.
To expand and improve your Italian language knowledge we use:
- Listening activities to improve your oral skills
- Free and technical conversation
- Readings
- Activities to improve your understanding of written texts
- Activities for two or in groups
- Grammar workshops
- Vocabulary exercises
- Instructional videos to improve your knowledge of Italian culture
At the end of the course, each student receives a certificate of attendance, which shows the level of language proficiency achieved.
Extracurricular Activities
Learning a language is much more than just being familiar with the grammar rules! Our activities will help you improve your conversational skills in a natural environment. Guided tours, a language laboratory, cooking classes and much more allow you to meet other students and improve your Italian in a pleasant way.
Every week, at least two additional afternoon activities are organized, which are included in the course price and in which students and their friends or relatives who are not enrolled in the language course can participate.

Insgesamt 4 Wochen lang an 3 Tagen je Woche und 2 Stunden pro Tag hatten wir beide gemeinsam Italienisch-Einzelunterricht. Unsere junge Lehrerin Chiara war immer sehr freundlich, kompetent hat sie uns gefordert und ging dabei geschickt auf unsere nicht mehr ganz präsenten Vorkenntnisse ein. Sie erklärte uns die Grammatik in der Theorie und ihre praktische Anwendung in Übungen und in den Nachbesprechungen der Hausaufgaben sehr genau, aber lebendig, geduldig und auch humorvoll. Und sie ermunterte uns auch zur freien Rede. So machte uns der Unterricht bis zuletzt Freude. Chiara hielt sich genau an das von der Schule zur Verfügung gestellte, gut verständliche schriftliche Unterrichtsmaterial, so daβ wir insbessondere die Grammatik zu Hause gut nacharbeiten konnten. Wir fahren nach Hause mit dem Gefuehl, einen grossen Schritt im Verständnis dieser schönen Sprache getan zu haben, auch wenn das Sprechen im Alltag noch lange nicht leicht fällt.
Die Schule ABC Elba koennen wir sehr empfehlen, wobei man aber wissen muβ, daβ ausschliesslich in italienischer Sprache unterrichtet wird, was ein gewisses Grundverständnis und einen gewissen Wortschatz voraussetzt (wir waren “fortgeschrittene Anfänger”).
Im uebrigen: Die herrschaftliche Villa Teresa, in der die Schule (im wahrsten Sinn des Wortes) residiert, liegt am Rande des hübschen Hafenstädtchens Porto Azzurro ganz ruhig in einem groβzügig angelegten und sehr gepflegten privaten Park. Sie verfügt über mehrere Freizeiteinrichtungen (u.a. ein sehr schönes Aussen-Schwimmbad) und strahlt toskanischen Flair aus. Der Unterricht findet bei schönem Wetter im Park statt. Gemeinsame Unternehmungen bereichern den Schulalltag. Die Atmosphäre der Schule, die auch Unterkünfte anbietet, ist familiär geprägt.
